National Reassurance Project

The 'National Police Reassurance Programme' is a Home Office initiative aimed at tackling problems, known as 'signal crimes', that affect the feeling well-being and security of people living in the New Parks ward.

'Signal crimes' are not necessarily acts of criminal behaviour. A 'signal crime' can be groups of young people hanging around street corners, shouting abuse and disturbing people in their homes; or environmental decay, such as damaged street lighting, illegal dumping, in fact, anything that makes you feel less secure and more frightened in you homes or on the streets.

In order to tackle these 'signal crimes', the Police are working with the City Council, Health, Fire Service and local people in a collaborative way to come up with real solutions to these problems.

Over the last few months we have seen 11 separate arrests, the appointment of an additional estate warden and more visible patrols on the streets. With much more to come, the National Police Reassurance Programme could make a real difference to the people of New Parks; however, the project can only be successful with your help.
