My Politics

I have been active in Politics since I was eight years old helping in many local and national election campaigns during the time Lord Janner Q.C. of Braunstone was serving as the local Member of Parliament for Leicester West. I became more involved in Politics during my college days and at the time lobbied the local authority council for students to receive free bus travel. I have also lobbied the Government on various issues including:- combating post office closures, improving training standards, putting an end to the problem of work permits for overseas staff, through to Asylum and Immigration. The positive outcomes for this process led to some successful projects nationally and in London for the European Leonardo and Skills Challenge Bid but I can always tell you more about that another time.

Both of my parents have been active in Politics and with their influence and knowledge I felt that I have now come to a stage in my life where I would like to help and serve the community. I have actively served as Equalities Officer, Youth and Student officer and Trade Union Liason Officer for my local constituency Labour Party (CLP). I am also a member of the GMB, UCU, Unite(the union) and ATL (Association of Teachers and Lecturers) Trade Unions. Finally I am proud and honoured to have served the city as the consort to the High Bailiff of Leicester Councillor Manjula Sood where we both became the first ever mother and son to be elected as city councillors.
