Councillor Mary Draycott

Cllr. Mary Draycott
Hello, welcome to my website. I have represented the Coleman Ward since 1989 by sitting on both the Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council. On the County Council I was the Labour Spokesperson on the Agriculture & Environment Committee for a number of years and served on the former Police Committee. On the City Council I have been the Chair of Environmental Services, Chair/Cabinet Lead  Housing Committee and in 2004 the Cabinet Lead for Finance & Resources and the Deputy Leader of the Council.  In addition I have been the Councils representative on the Leicester Partnership Against Crime & Disorder and I also serve on the Leicershire, Leicester & Rutland Fire Authority.

The Coleman Ward is now larger following the Government's Boundary Review at the elections in May 2003 and consist of at least 8500 electorate, 2000 more than before.

I have always lived in the East of the City and in the Coleman Ward since 1971.  I therefore see first hand local issues as well as using the local services. I have been a school governor on the Rowlatts Hill Primary School since 1990 and work with many local groups and organisations.

Lord Mayor of Leicester
In 2005/06 I was elected Lord Mayor of Leicester and my Better Health Appeal raised £100,000.000 to purchase three peices of medical equipment for Leicester's hospitals. The equpment will improve care for both Breast and Prostate Cancer as well as for reasearch in to Asthma.
