Bean busy in Aylestone
Aylestone Councillors Barbara Chambers and Nigel Porter planted an Indian BeanTree (Southern Catalpa) in bright Spring sunshine at Aylestone Hall Gardens, setting the scene for what they hope will be a green year for local outdoor leisure activities.
Barbara and Nigel are also backing bids to make Aylestone Meadows more accessible. One project calls for improvements to the entrances, with newsigns and maps to inform visitors of the varied flora and fauna, and the network of paths through the Meadows.
Nigel said: "The Aylestone Meadows are a incredibly valuable local resource and we must do whatever we can to encourage more people to visit."

saved from closure
Nigel and Barbara are happy to report that following a successful local campaign the Gilmorton Community Rooms have been saved from closure.
This was particularly welcome news for local residents who have used the rooms for many years and councillors who hold their surgeries there.
Barbara and Nigel were both dismayed at the proposed closure, and determined to fight it. Barbara said: "the importance of having a convenient local centre like this cannot be overstated".
