Allowances and Expenses
I believe that people have a right to know how much their elected representatives are paid and how much they claim in allowances and expenses.
Some of this information is published each year. MP’s office costs and allowances are published annually, and some details of councillor’s expenses are also published each year. This is a legal requirement.
I believe I am the first elected politician in Leicester – including City Councillors and Members of Parliament - to offer full details of my allowances and expenses voluntarily on my website.
Transparency in politics is very important and that’s why I am fully supportive of previous calls to open up MP expenses using the Freedom of Information Act. In my view it is crucial that we have full transparency and disclosure of allowances and expenses in local government as well as in Westminster.

Leicester Citizens' Eye
I recently met John Costers, Editor of Citizens's Eye. Citizens' Eye is a website devoted to local news in Leicester: it acts as a hub for information sharing and is used particularly by community and voluntary groups.
I am very interested in this venture and hope that local groups will make use of it. I have been a long-time supporter of the grassroots and community media movement and am looking forward to see how Citizens' Eye in Leicester will develop. Check it out: http://www.citizenseye.org/

Surgery Details
The Eyres Monsell Councillors (Councillor Kim Blower & Councillor Rory Palmer) hold regular surgeries across the ward:
First Thursday of the month; Eyres Monsell Community Centre, Hillsborough Road; 9:30-10:30am
Second Friday of the month: Southfields (Pork Pie) Library; 1:00-2:00pm
Third Saturday of the month; Eyres Monsell Community Centre, Hillsborough Road; 9:30-10:30am
We also hold regular coffee mornings at the Eyres Monsell Tenants & Residents Association on The Exchange.
We can also arrange home visits and appointments if you cannot attend our surgeries.
