Cllr. Ross Willmott (Labour)

Cllr. Ross Willmott
Thank you for visiting my website. Here you will find some information about me and the work I am engaged with on behalf of the people of Rushey Mead and Leicester.

I am one of 3 Labour Councillors for the Rushey Mead ward elected in 2003. The others are Cllr Culdipp Bhatti MBE and Cllr Piara Clair MBE.

I am Leader of the Council as well as a councillor for Rushey Mead. For the last 4 years I have been Leader of the Labour Opposition and was previously Leader of the Council from 1999-2003.

On May 3rd 2007 the Labour Party was re-elected to run the City Council with a Majority of 22. In the past we have been successful in bringing about the greatest regeneration of Leicester in modern times. Labour set up and funded the Regeneration Company, suported the Masterplan for the City's future and worked with Hammerson's to bring the best retail development in the East Midlands to our city. The idea for a Cultural Quarter in the City came from the Labour Group and is now the envy of Nottingham and Derby.

Under Labour millions of pounds have been pumped into our schools and standards have risen.  We brought about and support the new Academy for Eyres Monsell and Saffron.

Now that we have a fresh mandate given to us by the people of Leicester we will be setting out plans for the City for 5 and 25 years and look forward to working with you all in developing them.
Already we have put right a few simple things as we put the City "back on track".
  • Removed the portacabins from outside Oddbins
  • Bought a machine to clean the new granite paving, something overlooked by the Lib dems and Tories.
  • Allocated an extra £100,000 to summer play activities for this year

There will be more to come. Watch this space.
